Welcome to our Community Kitchen

The Community Kitchen is all about two things:

  • inviting people to come and cook a meal – and so learn about sustainable cooking on a budget and from scratch
  • joining us to share a healthy meal where all generations and parts of the community eat together and get to know each other.

The Community Kitchen is about bringing people together in friendship and community, (this way we are able to better understand what is needed at grass roots level).  We aim to help feed people of all ages, at a time when meals are being skipped due to a lack of funds and wherever possible, helping with and swopping recipes.  We do this by holding volunteer led classes for people who want to learn how to cook with any ingredient, often on a shoestring.

We then serve the meal for everyone to sit down and enjoy – and make new friends.

Everyone is very welcome – especially if

  • you want to learn about cooking cost effectively
  • you appreciate the company of fellow residents.

All we ask is that diners make a donation for the cost of the food – it is done anonymously and on a what you can afford basis.

When and where

The Community Kitchen takes place on the last Tuesday of each month (December 2024 date is Wednesday 18 December for a Christmas meal) at The Chapel Halls, (behind the Chapel Gym), Brewhouse Hill, Wheathampstead AL4 8AG

Please come around 17.30 for dinner at 18.00.  But please let us know you are coming in advance so we can ensure we have a meal for you.

We also have Tuesday Treats at the CK Eats! 🍜
Soup and Sarnies on the second Tuesday of each month – 1pm – 2.45pm. Meet up and chatter while enjoying your fave sarnie (hot or cold) and a soothing soup. Pay what you can.
